Expertise in Trauma and PTSD

I believe in word of mouth and professional integrity. While many therapists claim they work effectively with trauma and PTSD related symptomology, many may not have specific training or adequate experiences in this specific area or work. I am confident in my skills and training specific to trauma and PTSD, working explicitly within Trauma, Sexual Assault, Family Violence and providing counselling to survivors of complex PTSD for over 7 years and a 14 year career in Social Work. During this time, I have provided face to face, ongoing, goal orientated trauma therapy, crisis and emergency response to recent traumatic events, consulted with professionals and advocated the rights of my clients. I have worked closely with the Police, DHHS and Allied Health professionals in providing trauma informed consultation. I engage in ongoing trauma specific training and know how to engage and treat survivors of trauma safely and effectively providing a positive therapeutic experience. Additionally, having been part of the Military and First Responder Community gives me a firsthand insight to the impacts and nature of the military environment for both veterans and families alike, a connection only lived experience can provide.

Long lasting change

Committed to helping you develop sustainable skills to better manage symptoms, process trauma and understand core beliefs and resolve underlying issues. I Practice EMDR Therapy, which is an evidence-based model of therapy that changes the way the brain processes information and experiences, with the ability to achieve effective and lasting change.

An individualised approach

Understanding the impacts of PTSD and trauma on the whole person, I work Holistically in meeting people’s needs. Therapy is not a standardised ‘square peg, square hole’ approach. Understanding that each person seeking therapy has differing trauma responses and life experiences and supports. I have a flexible approach to therapy and adapt accordingly to each person’s individualism and needs. Effective therapy is one that is based on a trusting, two way and equal partnership and I encourage open discussion that promotes a sense of respect and empowerment that benefits your individual therapeutic experience.
